This time last year…

You may recall our post of late April last year where we set out to prepare the ground around our newly dug ponds for wildflowers. More specifically, you may remember our concern about the apparent high fertility of the soil and the risk of creating near perfect growing conditions for docks and nettles. Well… one year on it seems that our predictions were entirely correct. We have succeeded in growing some simply spectacular docks, interspersed with a mix of oxeye daisies, thistles and nettles – all in seemingly rude health.

On the basis this must provide habitat and a food source for something, we are minded to just let them all do their thing and watch what happens over the coming years. It won’t be to everyone’s taste I am sure but am guessing that nature being what it is, something will end up enjoying this new bit of habitat.
